Brood “H”, date of birth 01.08.2010. Norwich Terrier
THERE ARE MORE THAN 20 PUREBRED PRODUCERS!
Norwich Terrier is one of the smallest terriers (11-12 lb, 5-5.4 kg; 9-10 inches at the withers), with prick ears and a double coat, which come in red, tan, wheaten, black and tan, and grizzle. These small but hardy dogs are courageous, remarkably intelligent and wonderfully affectionate. They can be assertive but it is not typical for them to be aggressive, quarrelsome or shy. They are energetic and thrive on an active life. They are eager to please but have definite minds of their own. They are sensitive to scolding but 100% Terrier. They should never be kept outside or in a kennel setting because they love the companionship of their owners too much. Norwich are not given to unnecessary barking but they will warn of a stranger approaching. Norwich are good with children. If introduced to other household pets as a puppy they generally co-habit peacefully, though caution should be observed around rodent pets as they may be mistaken for prey.
Breed was bred in the city of Norwich, the capital of the Norfolk county in the 70-ies of the XIX century by crossing the red terriers with black and black&brown English terriers. Norwich Terrier differs from Norfolk Terrier only with the form of ears: his ears are erect, while the Norfolk Terrier's ears are hanging on the cartilage. For many years, Norwich Terriers and Norfolk Terriers were considered as two varieties of the same breed. By 1914 Norwich Terrier had almost disappeared, but later the breed was restored on the basis of a few surviving dogs. Norwich Terrier is registered in 1932 by the Kennel Club. This breed is the mascot of the Cambridge University students.
This strong, very energetic, self-confident dog is a wonderful companion. Rarely raised his voice. An avid hunter for rodents and small predators. When education is required persistence.
Care and grooming
Norwich Terrier can live in an urban environment, if he will ensure a high level of physical exertion. The hair should be cleaned with a brush and comb 3 times a week, and cut and trim 2-4 times a year.
